আর যদি আহলে-কিতাবরা বিশ্বাস স্থাপন করত এবং খোদাভীতি অবলম্বন করত, তবে আমি তাদের মন্দ বিষয়সমূহ ক্ষমা করে দিতাম এবং তাদেরকে নেয়ামতের উদ্যানসমূহে প্রবিষ্ট করতাম।
And if only the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) had believed (in Muhammad SAW) and warded off evil (sin, ascribing partners to Allâh) and had become AlMuttaqûn (the pious – see V.2:2) We would indeed have blotted out their sins and admitted them to Gardens of pleasure (in Paradise).
وَلَوْ أَنَّ أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ آمَنُواْ وَاتَّقَوْاْ لَكَفَّرْنَا عَنْهُمْ سَيِّئَاتِهِمْ وَلأدْخَلْنَاهُمْ جَنَّاتِ النَّعِيمِ
Walaw anna ahla alkitabi amanoo waittaqaw lakaffarna AAanhum sayyi-atihim walaadkhalnahum jannati alnnaAAeemi
YUSUFALI: If only the People of the Book had believed and been righteous, We should indeed have blotted out their iniquities and admitted them to gardens of bliss.
PICKTHAL: If only the People of the Scripture would believe and ward off (evil), surely We should remit their sins from them and surely We should bring them into Gardens of Delight.
SHAKIR: And if the followers of the Book had believed and guarded (against evil) We would certainly have covered their evil deeds and We would certainly have made them enter gardens of bliss
KHALIFA: If only the people of the scripture believe and lead a righteous life, we will then remit their sins, and admit them into gardens of bliss.
