আর যখন তোমাদের মধ্যে যারা মৃত্যুবরণ করবে তখন স্ত্রীদের ঘর থেকে বের না করে এক বছর পর্যন্ত তাদের খরচের ব্যাপারে ওসিয়ত করে যাবে। অতঃপর যদি সে স্ত্রীরা নিজে থেকে বেরিয়ে যায়, তাহলে সে নারী যদি নিজের ব্যাপারে কোন উত্তম ব্যবস্থা করে, তবে তাতে তোমাদের উপর কোন পাপ নেই। আর আল্লাহ হচ্ছেন পরাক্রমশালী বিজ্ঞতা সম্পন্ন।
And those of you who die and leave behind wives should bequeath for their wives a year’s maintenance and residence without turning them out, but if they (wives) leave, there is no sin on you for that which they do of themselves, provided it is honourable (e.g. lawful marriage). And Allâh is All-Mighty, All-Wise. [The order of this Verse has been cancelled (abrogated) by Verse 4:12].
وَالَّذِينَ يُتَوَفَّوْنَ مِنكُمْ وَيَذَرُونَ أَزْوَاجًا وَصِيَّةً لِّأَزْوَاجِهِم مَّتَاعًا إِلَى الْحَوْلِ غَيْرَ إِخْرَاجٍ فَإِنْ خَرَجْنَ فَلاَ جُنَاحَ عَلَيْكُمْ فِي مَا فَعَلْنَ فِيَ أَنفُسِهِنَّ مِن مَّعْرُوفٍ وَاللّهُ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌ
Waallatheena yutawaffawna minkum wayatharoona azwajan wasiyyatan li-azwajihim mataAAan ila alhawli ghayra ikhrajin fa-in kharajna fala junaha AAalaykum fee ma faAAalna fee anfusihinna min maAAroofin waAllahu AAazeezun hakeemun
YUSUFALI: Those of you who die and leave widows should bequeath for their widows a year’s maintenance and residence; but if they leave (The residence), there is no blame on you for what they do with themselves, provided it is reasonable. And Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise.
PICKTHAL: (In the case of) those of you who are about to die and leave behind them wives, they should bequeath unto their wives a provision for the year without turning them out, but if they go out (of their own accord) there is no sin for you in that which they do of themselves within their rights. Allah is Mighty, Wise.
SHAKIR: And those of you who die and leave wives behind, (make) a bequest in favor of their wives of maintenance for a year without turning (them) out, then if they themselves go away, there is no blame on you for what they do of lawful deeds by themselves, and Allah is Mighty, Wise.
KHALIFA: Those who die and leave wives, a will shall provide their wives with support for a year, provided they stay within the same household. If they leave, you commit no sin by letting them do whatever they wish, so long as righteousness is maintained. GOD is Almighty, Most Wise.
২৪০। তোমাদের মধ্যে যারা বিধবা স্ত্রী রেখে মারা যায়, তারা যেনো তাদের বিধবাদের জন্য এক বছরের থাকা ও খাওয়ার বন্দোবস্ত করে যায় ২৭৩। কিন্তু যদি তারা [গৃহ] ত্যাগ করে যায় এই শর্তে যে তারা নিজেদের জন্য যা করবে তা ন্যায়সঙ্গত, তাহলে তোমাদের কোন অপরাধ নাই। আল্লাহ্ অসীম ক্ষমতাধর, প্রজ্ঞাময়।
২৭৩। এখানে বিভিন্ন তফসীরকারদের মধ্যে মত পার্থক্য আছে। অনেকের মতে [৪:১২] দ্বারা বিধবাকে সম্পত্তির অংশ প্রদান করা হয় উত্তরাধিকারী সূত্রে। সুতরাং বিধবার এক বছরের ভরণ পোষণের যে আয়াতটি এখানে নাজিল হয়েছিল তা উক্ত আয়াত দ্বারা রহিত হয়ে গেলো। কিন্তু মওলানা ইউসুফ আলী তা মনে করেন না। উক্ত আয়াতটি সম্পত্তির ব্যাপারে প্রযোজ্য। কিন্তু বিধবা যদি ইচ্ছা করে এক বছরের পূর্বেই স্বামী গৃহ ত্যাগ করতে পারে। সেক্ষেত্রে তার ভরণ পোষণের দায়িত্ব রহিত হয়ে যায়।
