শুন, তোমরাই তো তারা, যাদেরকে আল্লাহর পথে ব্যয় করার আহবান জানানো হচ্ছে, অতঃপর তোমাদের কেউ কেউ কৃপণতা করছে। যারা কৃপণতা করছে, তারা নিজেদের প্রতিই কৃপণতা করছে। আল্লাহ অভাবমুক্ত এবং তোমরা অভাবগ্রস্থ। যদি তোমরা মুখ ফিরিয়ে নাও, তবে তিনি তোমাদের পরিবর্তে অন্য জাতিকে প্রতিষ্ঠিত করবেন, এরপর তারা তোমাদের মত হবে না।
Behold! You are those who are called to spend in the Cause of Allâh, yet among you are some who are niggardly. And whoever is niggardly, it is only at the expense of his ownself. But Allâh is Rich (Free of all wants), and you (mankind) are poor. And if you turn away (from Islâm and the obedience of Allâh), He will exchange you for some other people, and they will not be your likes.
هَاأَنتُمْ هَؤُلَاء تُدْعَوْنَ لِتُنفِقُوا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَمِنكُم مَّن يَبْخَلُ وَمَن يَبْخَلْ فَإِنَّمَا يَبْخَلُ عَن نَّفْسِهِ وَاللَّهُ الْغَنِيُّ وَأَنتُمُ الْفُقَرَاء وَإِن تَتَوَلَّوْا يَسْتَبْدِلْ قَوْمًا غَيْرَكُمْ ثُمَّ لَا يَكُونُوا أَمْثَالَكُمْ
Ha antum haola-i tudAAawna litunfiqoo fee sabeeli Allahi faminkum man yabkhalu waman yabkhal fa-innama yabkhalu AAan nafsihi waAllahu alghaniyyu waantumu alfuqarao wa-in tatawallaw yastabdil qawman ghayrakum thumma la yakoonoo amthalakum
YUSUFALI: Behold, ye are those invited to spend (of your substance) in the Way of Allah: But among you are some that are niggardly. But any who are niggardly are so at the expense of their own souls. But Allah is free of all wants, and it is ye that are needy. If ye turn back (from the Path), He will substitute in your stead another people; then they would not be like you!
PICKTHAL: Lo! ye are those who are called to spend in the way of Allah, yet among you there are some who hoard. And as for him who hoardeth, he hoardeth only from his soul. And Allah is the Rich, and ye are the poor. And if ye turn away He will exchange you for some other folk, and they will not be the likes of you.
SHAKIR: Behold! you are those who are called upon to spend in Allah’s way, but among you are those who are niggardly, and whoever is niggardly is niggardly against his own soul; and Allah is Self-sufficient and you have need (of Him), and if you turn back He will bring in your place another people, then they will not be like you.
KHALIFA: You are invited to spend in the cause of GOD, but some of you turn stingy. The stingy are stingy towards their own souls. GOD is Rich, while you are poor. If you turn away, He will substitute other people in your place, and they will not be like you.
৩৮। দেখ, তোমরাই তো তারা যাদের আল্লাহ্র পথে ব্যয় করতে বলা হয়েছে ৪৮৬৪। কিন্তু তোমাদের মধ্যে অনেকেই [ এ ব্যাপারে ] কার্পণ্য করে। অথচ যারা কার্পণ্য করে তারা তা করে নিজের আত্মার ক্ষতির পরিবর্তে। আল্লাহ্ তো অভাবমুক্ত বরং তোমরাই তো অভাবগ্রস্থ। তোমরা যদি [ সৎ পথ ] থেকে ফিরে যাও ৪৮৬৫, তবে তিনি তোমাদের স্থলে অন্য জাতিকে প্রতিস্থাপন করবেন। তারা তোমাদের মত হবে না।
৪৮৬৪। সাধারণ মানুষ ও প্রকৃত মোমেন বান্দার যে পার্থক্য তা এই আয়াতের মাধ্যমে তুলে ধরা হয়েছে। সাধারণ মানুষ প্রকৃতিগতভাবেই দুর্বলচিত্ত। ফলে সে বিশ্বাস থাকা সত্ত্বেও আল্লাহ্র রাস্তায় অর্থাৎ মহৎ উদ্দেশ্য বাস্তবায়ানের জন্য মুক্তহস্তে ব্যয় করতে অপারগ। তাঁর এই ব্যয়কুণ্ঠ স্বভাব তার মানবিক দুর্বলতা। এটা কোনও গুণ নয়। কারণ কৃপণতা ব্যক্তির সুক্ষ মানবিক অনুভূতিকে নষ্ট করে দেয়। এ ক্ষতি কৃপণের ; আল্লাহ্ অভাবমুক্ত, স্বাধীন – কারও দানের উপরে তিনি নির্ভরশীল নন। তবে আল্লাহ্র পরিকল্পনা বাস্তবায়িত হয় মানুষের মাধ্যমেই। যে বা যারা তা বাস্তবায়িত করেন তারা হন চারিত্রিক গুণে গুণান্বিত। এই অর্জিত গুণই হচ্ছে পার্থিব জগতে আল্লাহ্র বিশেষ দান। আল্লাহ্র রাস্তায় কাজ করা, মানুষের নিজস্ব কল্যাণের জন্য প্রয়োজন। আল্লাহ্র সেবার মাধ্যমেই আল্লাহ্র অনুগ্রহ লাভ করা সম্ভব। আমরা তাঁর করুণাপ্রার্থী।
৪৮৬৫। এই পৃথিবীর জীবন মঞ্চে মানুষ অভিনয় করে চলে কোন অদৃশ্য সূতার করাঙ্গুলে। মানব সভ্যতার সুনির্দ্দিষ্ট অগ্রগতি সেই অদৃশ্য অঙ্গুলির সংকেত মাত্র। এ অগ্রযাত্রাকে স্তব্ধ করার ক্ষমতা কারও নাই। মানুষ এই অগ্রযাত্রার নিমিত্ত মাত্র। যে এই অগ্রযাত্রায় আল্লাহ্র ইচ্ছার কাছে সমর্পিত হয়ে আল্লাহ্র রাস্তায় নিজস্ব মেধা, মননশক্তি, অর্থ-সম্পদ, প্রভাব-ক্ষমতা ব্যয় করে সেই ধন্য। যদি কেউ না করে তবে তার দরুণ আল্লাহ্র পরিকল্পনা ব্যর্থ হবার নয়। অন্য আর এক দল আল্লাহ্র বিজয় পতাকা উর্দ্ধে উত্তোলিত করে ধরবে। পৃথিবীর অগ্রযাত্রা থেমে থাকবে না। থেমে যাবে সেই পথিক বা জাতি যে আল্লাহ্র রাস্তায় ব্যয়কুণ্ঠ। সে যাবে পিছনে পড়ে,অন্য আর এক দল তার স্থান দখল করে নেবে – যারা ভীরু নয়, যারা আল্লাহ্র কাজে অবিশ্বস্ত নয়। কবি ‘Wordsworth’ এর ভাষায় ‘High Heaven rejects the lore of nicely calculated less or more’.
