আ’দ সম্প্রদায়ের ভাইয়ের কথা স্মরণ করুন, তার পূর্বে ও পরে অনেক সতর্ককারী গত হয়েছিল সে তার সম্প্রদায়কে বালুকাময় উচ্চ উপত্যকায় এ মর্মে সতর্ক করেছিল যে, তোমরা আল্লাহ ব্যতীত কারও এবাদত করো না। আমি তোমাদের জন্যে এক মহাদিবসের শাস্তির আশংকা করি।
And remember (Hûd) the brother of ’Ad, when he warned his people in Al-Ahqâf (the curved sand-hills in the southern part of Arabian Peninsula). And surely, there have passed away warners before him and after him (saying): ”Worship none but Allâh; truly, I fear for you the torment of a mighty Day.”
وَاذْكُرْ أَخَا عَادٍ إِذْ أَنذَرَ قَوْمَهُ بِالْأَحْقَافِ وَقَدْ خَلَتْ النُّذُرُ مِن بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِ أَلَّا تَعْبُدُوا إِلَّا اللَّهَ إِنِّي أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ
Waothkur akha AAadin ith anthara qawmahu bial-ahqafi waqad khalati alnnuthuru min bayni yadayhi wamin khalfihi alla taAAbudoo illa Allaha innee akhafu AAalaykum AAathaba yawmin AAatheemin
YUSUFALI: Mention (Hud) one of ‘Ad’s (own) brethren: Behold, he warned his people about the winding Sand-tracts: but there have been warners before him and after him: “Worship ye none other than Allah: Truly I fear for you the Penalty of a Mighty Day.”
PICKTHAL: And make mention (O Muhammad) of the brother of A’ad when he warned his folk among the wind-curved sandhills – and verily warners came and went before and after him – saying: Serve none but Allah. Lo! I fear for you the doom of a tremendous Day.
SHAKIR: And mention the brother of Ad; when he warned his people in the sandy plains,– and indeed warners came before him and after him– saying Serve none but Allah; surely I fear for you the punishment of a grievous day.
KHALIFA: Recall that the brother of `Aad warned his people at the dunes – numerous warnings were also delivered before him and after him: “You shall not worship except GOD. I fear for you the retribution of a great day.”

২১। আ’দ সম্প্রদায়ের ভ্রাতা [ হুদের ] উল্লেখ স্মরণ কর, ৪৭৯৮ যখন সে তাঁর সম্প্রদায়কে ঘুর্ণায়মান বালুকাময় প্রান্তর [ আহকাফ ] সম্বন্ধে সর্তক করেছিলো ৪৭৯৯। যদিও তাঁর পূর্বে এবং পরেও সর্তককারীরা এসেছিলো। [ সে বলেছিলো ] : ” তোমরা আল্লাহ্ ব্যতীত আর কারও ইবাদত করো না। নিশ্চয় আমি তোমাদের উপরে এক ভয়ংকর মহাদিনের আজাবের ভয় করছি।”
৪৭৯৮। দেখুন আয়াত [ ৭ : ৬৫ ] ও টিকা ১০৪০। ” আ’দ সম্প্রদায়ের ভ্রাতা ” অর্থাৎ হুদ্ নবীর কথা বলা হয়েছে। এখানে উল্লেখযোগ্য যে, হুদ নবী আদ্ সম্প্রদায়েরই লোক ছিলেন এবং তাদের মাঝেই প্রতিপালিত হন, তিনি বহিরাগত কোনও আগন্তুক ছিলেন না। তিনি ছিলেন তাদেরই জ্ঞাতি ভাই। ঠিক যেরূপ হচ্ছে রাসুলের অবস্থান কোরাইশদের মাঝে।
৪৭৯৯। “আহকাফ ” বাসীদের অবস্থান বর্ণনা করা হয়েছে এই সূরার ভূমিকাতে। আল্লাহ্র করুণায় তারা উন্নত সেচ প্রণালী উদ্ভাবনে সক্ষম হয়েছিলো। ফলে তারা পরিণত হয়েছিলো এক উন্নত সমৃদ্ধশালী জাতিতে। তাদের সমৃদ্ধি ও ক্ষমতা তাদের আল্লাহ্র রাস্তা থেকে বিচ্যুত করে দেয় – তারা আল্লাহ্র বিধানের বিরোধিতা করে। ফলে তারা আল্লাহ্র অনুগ্রহ বঞ্চিত হয়। দেখুন নীচের [ ২৪ – ২৬ ] আয়াত সমূহ।
