অবশেষে যখন সে আমার কাছে আসবে, তখন সে শয়তানকে বলবে, হায়, আমার ও তোমার মধ্যে যদি পূর্ব-পশ্চিমের দূরত্ব থাকত। কত হীন সঙ্গী সে।
Till, when (such a one) comes to Us, he says [to his Qarîn (Satan / devil companion)] ”Would that between me and you were the distance of the two easts (or the east and west)” a worst (type of) companion (indeed)!
حَتَّى إِذَا جَاءنَا قَالَ يَا لَيْتَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكَ بُعْدَ الْمَشْرِقَيْنِ فَبِئْسَ الْقَرِينُ
Hatta itha jaana qala ya layta baynee wabaynaka buAAda almashriqayni fabi/sa alqareenu
YUSUFALI: At length, when (such a one) comes to Us, he says (to his evil companion): “Would that between me and thee were the distance of East and West!” Ah! evil is the companion (indeed)!
PICKTHAL: Till, when he cometh unto Us, he saith (unto his comrade): Ah, would that between me and thee there were the distance of the two horizons – an evil comrade!
SHAKIR: Until when he comes to Us, he says: O would that between me and you there were the distance of the East and the West; so evil is the associate!
KHALIFA: When he comes before us he will say, “Oh I wish you were as far from me as the two easts. What a miserable companion!”
৩৮। অবশেষে যখন [এরূপ ব্যক্তি ] আমার নিকট উপস্থিত হবে, সে [তার মন্দ সঙ্গীকে ]বলবে, ৪৬৪০ “হায় ! আমার ও তোমার মধ্য যদি পূর্ব ও পশ্চিমের ব্যবধান থাকতো।” ৪৬৪১। আঃ ![ সত্যিই ] কত নিকৃষ্ট সহচর সে।
৪৬৪০। পৃথিবীতে বা শেষ বিচারের দিনে যখনই প্রকৃত সত্যের ঝলক তার মানসপটে উদ্ভাসিত হবে, হতাশা , উদ্বেগ ও দুশ্চিন্তা প্রতিটি পাপীর আত্মাকে ঘিরে ধরবে। সে তখন তাঁর মন্দ সঙ্গীকে অভিযুক্ত করবে। “হায় ! তোমার আমার মধ্যে যদি পূর্ব পশ্চিমের ব্যবধান থাকতো।” অনুতাপে তারা দগ্ধ হতে থাকবে। কিন্তু এই অনুতাপও তাদের শয়তান মুক্ত করতে পারবে না। কারণ তারা ইচ্ছাকৃত ভাবে শয়তানের ফাঁদে ধরা দিয়েছে।
৪৬৪১। ‘পূর্ব ও পশ্চিমের ব্যবধান’ – আক্ষরিক অর্থে প্রাচ্য ও মধ্য প্রাচ্যের মধ্যে পার্থক্য। অধিকাংশ তফসীরকারের মতে এর অর্থ নিরক্ষরেখা থেকে গ্রীষ্মে ও শীতে সূর্যের দূরতম স্থানের অবস্থান। দেখুন [ ৩৭ : ৫ ] আয়াতের টিকা ৪০৩৪। এই বাক্যটি উত্তর ও দক্ষিণ মেরুর মধ্যে যে ব্যবধান – অর্থাৎ দেখা হওয়ার কোনও সুযোগই নাই।
