তাদের কাছে যখন তাদের রসূলগণ স্পষ্ট প্রমাণাদিসহ আগমন করেছিল, তখন তারা নিজেদের জ্ঞান-গরিমার দম্ভ প্রকাশ করেছিল। তারা যে বিষয় নিয়ে ঠাট্টাবিদ্রুপ করেছিল, তাই তাদেরকে গ্রাস করে নিয়েছিল।
For when their apostles came to them with Clear Signs, they exulted in such knowledge (and skill) as they had; but that very (Wrath) at which they were wont to scoff hemmed them in.
فَلَمَّا جَاءتْهُمْ رُسُلُهُم بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ فَرِحُوا بِمَا عِندَهُم مِّنَ الْعِلْمِ وَحَاقَ بِهِم مَّا كَانُوا بِهِ يَسْتَهْزِؤُون
Falamma jaat-hum rusuluhum bialbayyinati farihoo bima AAindahum mina alAAilmi wahaqa bihim ma kanoo bihi yastahzi-oona
YUSUFALI: For when their messengers came to them with Clear Signs, they exulted in such knowledge (and skill) as they had; but that very (Wrath) at which they were wont to scoff hemmed them in.
PICKTHAL: And when their messengers brought them clear proofs (of Allah’s Sovereignty) they exulted in the knowledge they (themselves) possessed. And that which they were wont to mock befell them.
SHAKIR: Then when their messengers came to them with clear arguments, they exulted in what they had with them of knowledge, and there beset them that which they used to mock.
KHALIFA: When their messengers went to them with clear proofs, they rejoiced in the knowledge they had inherited, and the very things they ridiculed were the cause of their fall.
৮৩। যখনই স্পষ্ট নিদর্শনসহ রাসুলগণ তাদের নিকট আসতো , তখন তারা তাদের নিজেদের জ্ঞান [ ও দক্ষতার ] গৌরবে দম্ভ প্রকাশ করতো ৪৪৫৯। কিন্তু তারা যা [ যে শাস্তি ] নিয়ে ঠাট্টা -বিদ্রূপ করতো উহাই তাদের বেষ্টন করলো ৪৪৬০।
৪৪৫৯। আত্মগর্ব ও আত্মগরিমা , অহংকার , দম্ভ ও উদ্ধতপনার জন্ম দেয়। আর অহংকার সকল পতনের কারণ ও সকল পাপের মূল বা উৎস। ” জ্ঞানের দম্ভ” অর্থাৎ নিজেদের শ্রেষ্ঠত্বের দাবী বা অহংকার করা। এভাবেই কোন ব্যক্তি বিশেষ বা জাতি অহংকারের দরুন ধ্বংস হয়ে যায়।
৪৪৬০। দেখুন আয়াত [ ১৬ : ৩৪ ]। আল্লাহ্র ন্যায় বিচার সকলের জন্য সমভাবে প্রযোজ্য হবেই। যারা আল্লাহ্র সম্বন্ধে ঠাট্টা বিদ্রূপ করে, আল্লাহ্র ন্যায় বিচারের শাস্তি তাদের সর্ব অস্তিত্বকে বেষ্টন করে ফেলবে। তাদের জাঁকজমক , জ্ঞান বিজ্ঞান ,দ্ক্ষতা , শক্তি ক্ষমতা কোন কাজেই আসবে না।
