যখন তারা তোমাদের নিকটবর্তী হয়েছিল উচ্চ ভূমি ও নিম্নভূমি থেকে এবং যখন তোমাদের দৃষ্টিভ্রম হচ্ছিল, প্রাণ কন্ঠাগত হয়েছিল এবং তোমরা আল্লাহ সম্পর্কে নানা বিরূপ ধারণা পোষণ করতে শুরু করছিলে।
When they came upon you from above you and from below you, and when the eyes grew wild and the hearts reached to the throats, and you were harbouring doubts about Allâh.
إِذْ جَاؤُوكُم مِّن فَوْقِكُمْ وَمِنْ أَسْفَلَ مِنكُمْ وَإِذْ زَاغَتْ الْأَبْصَارُ وَبَلَغَتِ الْقُلُوبُ الْحَنَاجِرَ وَتَظُنُّونَ بِاللَّهِ الظُّنُونَا
Ith jaookum min fawqikum wamin asfala minkum wa-ith zaghati al-absaru wabalaghati alquloobu alhanajira watathunnoona biAllahi alththunoona
YUSUFALI: Behold! they came on you from above you and from below you, and behold, the eyes became dim and the hearts gaped up to the throats, and ye imagined various (vain) thoughts about Allah!
PICKTHAL: When they came upon you from above you and from below you, and when eyes grew wild and hearts reached to the throats, and ye were imagining vain thoughts concerning Allah.
SHAKIR: When they came upon you from above you and from below you, and when the eyes turned dull, and the hearts rose up to the throats, and you began to think diverse thoughts of Allah.
KHALIFA: When they came from above you, and from beneath you, your eyes were terrified, your hearts ran out of patience, and you harbored unbefitting thoughts about GOD.
১০। স্মরণ কর ! তারা তোমাদের উপর দিক থেকে ও নীচের দিক থেকে সমাগত হয়েছিলো , এবং দেখো তোমাদের চক্ষু বিস্ফোরিত হয়েছিলো, তোমাদের প্রাণ হয়ে পড়েছিলো কণ্ঠাগত এবং তোমরা আল্লাহ্র সম্বন্ধে নানাবিধ ধারণা পোষণ করছিলে ৩৬৮২।
৩৬৮২। কোরাণ শরীফের এই আয়াতে যুদ্ধে নিয়োজিত মুসলমান সৈনিকের মানসিক অবস্থাকে সংক্ষেপে কিন্তু তুলনাহীনভাবে বর্ণনা করা হয়েছে। শত্রুদের আক্রমণ ছিলো প্রচন্ড। পরিখাটি ছিলো আক্রমণাত্মক শত্রুসেনা ও মূসলমানদের মধ্যবর্তী স্থানে, শত্রুদের পিছনে ছিলো উচ্চ ভূমি যাতে মনে হচ্ছিলো যে তারা উচ্চ ভূমি থেকে আগত হচেছ। যখন তারা উপত্যকা অতিক্রম করছিলো বা পরিখা অতিক্রম করার চেষ্টা করছিলো তখন প্রতিভাত হয় যে, তারা নিম্ন অঞ্চল থেকে উপরে উঠে আসছে। অবশ্যই দুপক্ষ থেকে বৃষ্টির ন্যায় অবিরল ধারাতে তীর এবং পাথর নিক্ষিপ্ত হতে থাকে। যুদ্ধ ক্ষেত্রের এই বর্ণনা এবং মুসলমানদের মানসিক অবস্থার বর্ণনা সংক্ষিপ্ত কিন্তু অতুলনীয়।
