যখন তাদেরকে মেঘমালা সদৃশ তরংগ আচ্ছাদিত করে নেয়, তখন তারা খাঁটি মনে আল্লাহকে ডাকতে থাকে। অতঃপর তিনি যখন তাদেরকে স্থলভাগের দিকে উদ্ধার করে আনেন, তখন তাদের কেউ কেউ সরল পথে চলে। কেবল মিথ্যাচারী, অকৃতজ্ঞ ব্যক্তিই আমার নিদর্শনাবলী অস্বীকার করে।
And when a wave covers them like shades (i.e. like clouds or the mountains of seawater), they invoke Allâh, making their invocations for Him only. But when He brings them safe to land, there are among them those that stop in the middle, between (Belief and disbelief). But none denies Our Signs except every perfidious ungrateful.
وَإِذَا غَشِيَهُم مَّوْجٌ كَالظُّلَلِ دَعَوُا اللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ الدِّينَ فَلَمَّا نَجَّاهُمْ إِلَى الْبَرِّ فَمِنْهُم مُّقْتَصِدٌ وَمَا يَجْحَدُ بِآيَاتِنَا إِلَّا كُلُّ خَتَّارٍ كَفُورٍ
Wa-itha ghashiyahum mawjun kaalththulali daAAawoo Allaha mukhliseena lahu alddeena falamma najjahum ila albarri faminhum muqtasidun wama yajhadu bi-ayatina illa kullu khattarin kafoorin
YUSUFALI: When a wave covers them like the canopy (of clouds), they call to Allah, offering Him sincere devotion. But when He has delivered them safely to land, there are among them those that halt between (right and wrong). But none reject Our Signs except only a perfidious ungrateful (wretch)!
PICKTHAL: And if a wave enshroudeth them like awnings, they cry unto Allah, making their faith pure for Him only. But when He bringeth them safe to land, some of them compromise. None denieth Our signs save every traitor ingrate.
SHAKIR: And when a wave like mountains covers them they call upon Allah, being sincere to Him in obedience, but when He brings them safe to the land, some of them follow the middle course; and none denies Our signs but every perfidious, ungrateful one.
KHALIFA: When violent waves surround them, they implore GOD, sincerely devoting their prayers to Him alone. But as soon as He saves them to the shore, some of them revert. None discards our revelations except those who are betrayers, unappreciative.
৩২। যখন উত্তাল তরঙ্গমালা [ মেঘের ] চাঁদোয়ার মত তাদের ঢেকে দেয়, তারা একান্ত অনুগতভাবে আল্লাহকে ডাকে ৩৬২১। কিন্তু যখন তিনি তাদের নিরাপদে স্থলভাগে পৌঁছিয়ে দেন, তাদের মধ্যে কেহ কেহ [ন্যায় -অন্যায়ের ] মাঝামাঝি থেমে থাকে ৩৬২২। কিন্তু বিশ্বাসঘাতক অকৃতজ্ঞ [ হতভাগ্য ] ব্যতীত কেহ আমার নিদর্শনসমূহ প্রত্যাখান করে না।
৩৬২১। দেখুন আয়াত [৭ : ২৯ ] যেখানে কৃতজ্ঞ ব্যক্তিদের বর্ণনা আছে, যারা সর্বদা সকল অবস্থায় সুখে-দুঃখে আল্লাহ্র সাহায্য কামনা করে এবং আল্লাহ্র অনুগ্রহের জন্য কৃতজ্ঞ চিত্তে ধন্যবাদ জ্ঞাপন করে। এই ধন্যবাদ জ্ঞাপনের ভাষা হচ্ছে আল্লাহ্র অনুগ্রহসমূহের সঠিক ব্যবহার এবং আল্লাহ্র দেয় কর্তব্যে অবিচল থাকা। এই আয়াতে [ ৩১ : ৩২ ] কৃতজ্ঞদের বিপরীতে আর এক শ্রেণী লোকের উল্লেখ করা হয়েছে যারা শুধুমাত্র বিপদে পড়লেই আল্লাহ্কে স্মরণ করে। তাদের এই বিপদ হচ্ছে প্রাকৃতিক দুর্যোগ। এখানে উদাহরণ স্বরূপ বলা হয়েছে সমুদ্রে অবস্থানরত কোন নৌযান যখন সামুদ্রিক ঝড়ে আক্রান্ত হয় তার অধিবাসীদের অবস্থা। এরূপ প্রকৃতির দুর্যোগ আরও হতে পারে যেমন : ভূমিকম্প, টর্নেডো ইত্যাদি। এরূপ দুর্যোগের ক্ষেত্রে এ সব লোক সর্বান্তঃকরণে আল্লাহ্র সাহায্য কামনা করে থাকে। কিন্তু আল্লাহ্র করুণায় বিপদ যখন অতিক্রম করে যায় , তারা আবার আল্লাহ্র সম্বন্ধে কোনও আকর্ষণ অনুভব করে না এবং পাপের প্রতি মনোযোগ দেয়।
৩৬২২। যারা আল্লাহ্র পথে থাকে না, তারা ভালো ও মন্দের মধ্যে সর্বদা দোদুল্যমান থাকে। তারা ভালোর বিরোধিতা করে না সত্য, কিন্তু মন্দকেও ত্যাগ করে না, যারা সর্বদা আল্লাহ্র নিকট কৃতজ্ঞতা প্রকাশ করে থাকে, এ সব লোক তাদের বিপরীত ধর্মী হয়। এ সব লোককেই বিশ্বাসঘাতক, অকৃতজ্ঞ ব্যক্তি বলা হয়েছে।
