তারা কি পৃথিবীতে ভ্রমণ করে না অতঃপর দেখে না যে; তাদের পূর্ববর্তীদের পরিণাম কি কি হয়েছে? তারা তাদের চাইতে শক্তিশালী ছিল, তারা যমীন চাষ করত এবং তাদের চাইতে বেশী আবাদ করত। তাদের কাছে তাদের রসূলগণ সুস্পষ্ট নির্দেশ নিয়ে এসেছিল। বস্তুতঃ আল্লাহ তাদের প্রতি জুলুমকারী ছিলেন না। কিন্তু তারা নিজেরাই নিজেদের প্রতি জুলুম করেছিল।
Do they not travel in the land, and see what was the end of those before them? They were superior to them in strength, and they tilled the earth and populated it in greater numbers than these (pagans) have done, and there came to them their Messengers with clear proofs. Surely, Allâh wronged them not, but they used to wrong themselves.
أَوَلَمْ يَسِيرُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ فَيَنظُرُوا كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ كَانُوا أَشَدَّ مِنْهُمْ قُوَّةً وَأَثَارُوا الْأَرْضَ وَعَمَرُوهَا أَكْثَرَ مِمَّا عَمَرُوهَا وَجَاءتْهُمْ رُسُلُهُم بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ فَمَا كَانَ اللَّهُ لِيَظْلِمَهُمْ وَلَكِن كَانُوا أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ
Awa lam yaseeroo fee al-ardi fayanthuroo kayfa kana AAaqibatu allatheena min qablihim kanoo ashadda minhum quwwatan waatharoo al-arda waAAamarooha akthara mimma AAamarooha wajaat-hum rusuluhum bialbayyinati fama kana Allahu liyathlimahum walakin kanoo anfusahum yathlimoona
YUSUFALI: Do they not travel through the earth, and see what was the end of those before them? They were superior to them in strength: they tilled the soil and populated it in greater numbers than these have done: there came to them their messengers with Clear (Signs). (Which they rejected, to their own destruction): It was not Allah Who wronged them, but they wronged their own souls.
PICKTHAL: Have they not travelled in the land and seen the nature of the consequence for those who were before them? They were stronger than these in power, and they dug the earth and built upon it more than these have built. Messengers of their own came unto them with clear proofs (of Allah’s Sovereignty). Surely Allah wronged them not, but they did wrong themselves.
SHAKIR: Have they not travelled in the earth and seen how was the end of those before them? They were stronger than these in prowess, and dug up the earth, and built on it in greater abundance than these have built on it, and there came to them their messengers with clear arguments; so it was not beseeming for Allah that He should deal with them unjustly, but they dealt unjustly with their own souls.
KHALIFA: Have they not roamed the earth and noted the consequences for those who preceded them? They used to be more powerful, more prosperous, and more productive on earth. Their messengers went to them with clear signs. Consequently, GOD was not the One who wronged them; they are the ones who wronged their own souls.
০৯। তারা কি পৃথিবীতে ভ্রমণ করে না এবং দেখে না তাদের পূর্ববর্তীদের কি পরিণাম হয়েছিলো ? শক্তিতে তারা ছিলো তাদের অপেক্ষা শ্রেষ্ঠ। তারা জমি চাষ করতো, এবং ভূমিতে তারা জনবসতি করেছিলো, ইহাদের [ প্যাগান ] অপেক্ষা অধিক [সংখ্যায় ]। তাদের নিকট স্পষ্ট [ নিদর্শনসহ] রাসুলগণ এসেছিলো ৩৫১৫, [ [যাদের তারা প্রত্যাখান করে নিজেদের ধ্বংস ডেকে এনেছিলো ]। আল্লাহ্ তাদের প্রতি অত্যাচার করেন নাই, তারা নিজেরাই নিজেদের আত্মার প্রতি অত্যাচার করেছিলো।
৩৫১৫। এ কথা যেনো পরবর্তী প্রজন্মের মনে উদয় না হয়, যে তারা পূর্ববর্তী প্রজন্ম থেকে জ্ঞান , বিজ্ঞান ও সভ্যতায় উন্নত। হতে পারে বর্তমান প্রজন্ম অতীত প্রজন্মের উত্তরাধীকারী ,অতীত প্রজন্মের জ্ঞান-বিজ্ঞানের উত্তরাধীকারী হওয়ার ফলে সময়ের নথিতে সে সর্বোচ্চ স্থানে বর্তমানে অবস্থান করছে। সে কারণে গর্ব ও অহংকার হওয়ার কিছুই নাই। অপরপক্ষে সভ্যতা ও জ্ঞান-বিজ্ঞানের উত্তরাধীকারী হওয়ার ফলে তার দায়িত্ব বহূগুণে বৃদ্ধি পায়। এই সত্যকে উপলব্ধি করার জন্য আল্লাহ্ আমাদের দেশ ভ্রমণ করতে আদেশ দিয়েছেন, ইতিহাস থেকে শিক্ষা নিতে বলেছেন, কত সমৃদ্ধ জনপদ, উন্নত সভ্যতা পৃথিবীতে বিরাজ করেছে। যতদিন তারা তাদের রাজ্য শাসন করেছে আল্লাহ্র বিধান বা ন্যায়ের ও সত্যের প্রতিষ্ঠার মাধ্যমে, ততদিন তাদের সমৃদ্ধি উত্তোরোত্তর বৃদ্ধি পেয়েছে। কিন্তু যখনই তারা আল্লাহ্র আইন বা বিধানকে লঙ্ঘন করেছে, অন্যায় ও অত্যাচারের শাসন প্রতিষ্ঠা করেছে ও আল্লাহ্র বিধানের বিরোধিতা করেছে, তখনই তারা পৃথিবী থেকে নিশ্চিহ্ন হয়ে গেছে। ইতিহাস থেকে এ সত্যকে উপলব্ধি করা যায় যে, আল্লাহ্র বিধানের প্রতি বিদ্রোহ -ই ছিলো তাদের পতনের কারণ। আল্লাহ্ তাদের প্রতি জুলুম করেন নাই। তিনি অপার করুণার আঁধার ও ন্যায়ের প্রতীক। মানুষ নিজেই নিজের কর্মফলের দরুন ধ্বংস হয়ে যায়। এই সত্য ব্যক্তির বেলাতে যেমন প্রযোজ্য , জাতির বলোতেও সমভাবে প্রযোজ্য।
