আমি নূহ (আঃ) কে তাঁর সম্প্রদায়ের কাছে প্রেরণ করেছিলাম। তিনি তাদের মধ্যে পঞ্চাশ কম এক হাজার বছর অবস্থান করেছিলেন। অতঃপর তাদেরকে মহাপ্লাবণ গ্রাস করেছিল। তারা ছিল পাপী।
And indeed We sent Nûh (Noah) to his people, and he stayed among them a thousand years less fifty years [inviting them to believe in the Oneness of Allâh (Monotheism), and discard the false gods and other deities], and the Deluge overtook them while they were Zâlimûn (wrong-doers, polytheists, disbelievers, etc.).
وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَى قَوْمِهِ فَلَبِثَ فِيهِمْ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ إِلَّا خَمْسِينَ عَامًا فَأَخَذَهُمُ الطُّوفَانُ وَهُمْ ظَالِمُونَ
Walaqad arsalna noohan ila qawmihi falabitha feehim alfa sanatin illa khamseena AAaman faakhathahumu alttoofanu wahum thalimoona
YUSUFALI: We (once) sent Noah to his people, and he tarried among them a thousand years less fifty: but the Deluge overwhelmed them while they (persisted in) sin.
PICKTHAL: And verily we sent Noah (as Our messenger) unto his folk, and he continued with them for a thousand years save fifty years; and the flood engulfed them, for they were wrong-doers.
SHAKIR: And certainly We sent Nuh to his people, so he remained among them a thousand years save fifty years. And the deluge overtook them, while they were unjust.
KHALIFA: We sent Noah to his people, and he stayed with them one thousand years, less fifty. Subsequently, they incurred the flood because of their transgressions.

১৪। [একদা ] আমি নূহ্ কে তাঁর সম্প্রদায়ের নিকট প্রেরণ করেছিলাম। সে তাদের নিকট অবস্থান করেছিলো পঞ্চাশ কম হাজার বছর। অতঃপর প্লাবন তাদের নিমজ্জিত করেছিলো ,যখন তারা পাপের [মাঝে সর্বদা লিপ্ত ছিলো ] ৩৪৩৭।
৩৪৩৭। এই সূরাতে নূহ্ এর বন্যার কাহিনী বর্ণনা করা হয় নাই। সে কাহিনী বর্ণনা করা হয়েছে অন্য সূরাতে [১১: ২৫ – ৪৮ অথবা ২৬ : ১০৫- ২২]। এখানে উল্লেখ করা হয়েছে যে, নূহ্ এর সময়কাল ছিলো অত্যন্ত দীর্ঘ তা ছিলো ৯৫০ বৎসর। [ Genix 28 -29 ] -এ উল্লেখ আছে যে নূহ্ জীবিত ছিলেন ৯৫০ বৎসর , তার মধ্যে ৩৫০ বৎসর ছিলো মহাপ্লাবনের পরে। দীর্ঘ সময়ের উল্লেখের কারণ হচ্ছে ,এই সূদীর্ঘ কালেও মন্দরা তাঁর হেদায়েত গ্রহণ করে নাই, তার ফলে তাদের আল্লাহ্ ধ্বংস করে দেন। নূহ্ এবং তাঁর নৌকা ও মহাপ্লাবনের কাহিনী মানুষের জন্য এক অমোঘ সর্তকবাণীর প্রতীক। এই কাহিনীর মাধ্যমে মানুষ জাতিকে সাবধান করা হয়েছে যে দুষ্কৃতিকারীকে আল্লাহ্ ধ্বংস করবেন এবং পূণ্যাত্মাদের আল্লাহ্ রক্ষা করবেন। বিশ্ব জগতের জন্য এ হচ্ছে যুগ কাল অতিক্রান্ত এক নিদর্শন।
