যদি কাফেররা ঐ সময়টি জানত, যখন তারা তাদের সম্মুখ ও পৃষ্ঠদেশ থেকে অগ্নি প্রতিরোধ করতে পারবে না এবং তারা সাহায্য প্রাপ্ত হবে না।
If only those who disbelieved knew (the time) when they will not be able to ward off the Fire from their faces, nor from their backs; and they will not be helped.
لَوْ يَعْلَمُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا حِينَ لَا يَكُفُّونَ عَن وُجُوهِهِمُ النَّارَ وَلَا عَن ظُهُورِهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ
Law yaAAlamu allatheena kafaroo heena la yakuffoona AAan wujoohihimu alnnara wala AAan thuhoorihim wala hum yunsaroona
YUSUFALI: If only the Unbelievers knew (the time) when they will not be able to ward off the fire from their faces, nor yet from their backs, and (when) no help can reach them!
PICKTHAL: If those who disbelieved but knew the time when they will not be able to drive off the fire from their faces and from their backs, and they will not be helped!
SHAKIR: Had those who disbelieve but known (of the time) when they shall not be able to ward off the fire from their faces nor from their backs, nor shall they be helped.
KHALIFA: If only those who disbelieve could envision themselves when they try to ward off the fire – off their faces and their backs! No one will help them then.
৩৮। তারা বলে, ” তোমরা যদি সত্য বলে থাক, তাহলে বল, এই প্রতিশ্রুতি কখন পূর্ণ হবে ? ”
৩৯। যদি অবিশ্বাসীরা [সেই সময়ের কথা ] জানতো ২৭০০ , যখন তারা তাদের সম্মুখ থেকে আগুন প্রতিরোধ করতে পারবে না , পশ্চাৎ থেকেও পারবে না, কোন সাহায্য তাদের নিকট পৌঁছবে না।
২৭০০। যদি কাফেররা তাদের শেষ পরিণতির কথা সম্যকভাবে উপলব্ধি করতে পারতো তবে অবশ্যই তারা শাস্তিকে ত্বরান্বিত করার জন্য অধৈর্য্য হতো না। তাদের শাস্তির বর্ণনা করা হয়েছে এভাবে : শাস্তির আগুন তাদের সর্বদিক থেকে আবৃত করে ফেলবে। তারা কোনও সাহায্যকারী পাবে না। তাহলে শেষ পরিণতির কথা চিন্তা করে এখনই অনুতাপ করার শ্রেষ্ঠ সময় নয় কি ? তাদের উপরে নিপতিত শাস্তি সহসাই আসবে যার কথা পরবর্তী আয়াতে বলা হয়েছে।
